Paul Chen
Hanwei Practical Katana

Hanwei's ever popular new 6th generation Practical Katana (SH1070), the martial artist's opportunity to own and use a Hanwei sword at the cost of an economy sword. The blade is forged and differentially tempered, using the same process as the more expensive blades and producing an HRC60 edge and HRC40 back. The temper line is authentic and prominent. Cost savings are effected by using fittings which, while making no claims to authenticity, are very strongly built to withstand the rigors of cutting exercises in the dojo.

The Practical Katana features imitation rayskin handles with traditional black cord wrap, black coated metal antiqued tsubas and wooden scabbard with a rich black lacquer finish. The Practical Katana (SH1070) Sword by Paul Chen is undoubtedly the best value available in a Japanese Samurai Katana sword.

The Practical Plus Katana's high carbon blade is hand forged and differentially tempered with a HRC 60 edge and HRC 40 back while boasting a very prominent hamon (temper line). The Practical Plus Katana (SH2073) features genuine Same (Ray Skin) on the handle, with a leather like wrap (Tsuka Ito) specially developed for its gripping qualities. Hanwei Practical PRO Katana

The "Practical PRO" Katana (SH2162) has an extended tsuka and a thicker and longer blade. The blades are constructed from hand-forged, high-carbon steel and are differentially tempered using a traditional claying method. The Practical Pro has a fine polish to it compared to others in the series. The tsuka is wrapped with synthetic black leather for its gripping characteristics and is double-pegged for safety. The saya is done in a deep black lacquer with a black Japanese cotton sageo. The fittings (koshirae) are done in antiqued black iron. The katana is stylized with a round Kuruma tsuba, which represents the “Wheel of Dharma,” symbolizing the Buddhist concept of the Noble Eightfold Path. For those interested in an economical katana that can stand the rigors of heavy cutting (tameshigiri), the Practical Pro is an excellent choice.

It features: A slightly longer blade and longer handle. A stylish antiqued tsuba is also a NEW plus and topped off with an intricate antiqued Kashira (end cap). The handle is double pinned and removable so the katana can be completely disassembled which will allow you to customize it with another tsuba or handle wrap. It also features a genuine rayskin handle. The Practical Pro Katana (SH2262) Sword by Paul Chen is undoubtedly a better value available in a true Traditional Japanese Samurai Katana sword.

Imperial Japanese Katana
Imperial Japanese Katana

We are proud to introduce our new Imperial Japanese Katana, masterfully made specifically to be used in "the way of the sword", rather then hung on the wall. Using specially forged and tempered High Carbon or Spring Steel we've produced a high quality blade that truly out performs our competition's. The Imperial Katana Japanese Katana exceedes the expectations of martial artistes for strength, cutting power, and most importantly, craftsmanship. Each sword blade is individual hand forged, heat treated, tempered and polished by skilled hands creating a true battle ready weapon.

Keeping with Japanese traditions our Imperial Japanese Katana is crafted using only traditional materials and fittings. The Tsuba (guard), Fuchi (collar), and Kashira (pommel) are expertly made and finely crafted from black iron. The Habaki (blade collar) is hand made out of polished brass and each tsuka (handle) is covered in real black Same' (ray skin) and tightly wrapped in the traditional cross over style ito (braid) with green cord.

It takes time to produce swords of this quality and this is why our Imperial Japanese Katana cost more and are more difficult to acquire. It is best to order or reserve your blade as soon as possible as we do not always have full availability in stock. We take great pride in the quality and performance of or swords, we will not compromise this quality and performance just to sell more swords.
